A Baby Boomer's Take on Video Gaming | Snakebyte USA Blog

By Howard Borenstein

Video gaming has come a long way from when I first played space invaders on my Atari. Sitting for hours with a joystick jabbing into my palm was my fun.

For a long time after that I left playing video games and went on with my carrier in consumer electronics. In the beginning I would go to the Nintendo and Sony booths when they exhibited at CES so many years ago. Still ever looking at the home video game arena as the couch potatoes Lear.

But just a few short years ago when I worked with and for an unnamed game publisher, I got my first Wii. Wow, I said, I had gotten an early jump and received a Wii before it actually went on sale. Little did I know how lucky I really was?

Now I really see the value in retrospect:

  1. Interactive no sitting on your duff anymore.
  2. Games I?ve played in real life are now virtual ? i.e. golf, bowling, baseball.
  3. I was at the forefront being one of the first to play.
  4. We could now have family and friend parties without the drab sitting and chatting about nothing but weather and ailments.
  5. Bowl in groups of 4 and have the privacy not worrying about having to buy food or drink at inflated prices. This was cheap wholesome family fun right at home.

The Wii started interactive that now all have copied. Nothing is ever better than the original.? Even the poor graphics and bubble headed characters actually added to the enjoyment. Now things are so real it?s actually stressful to play some of the new interactive PS3 and Xbox games.

How about you?
